Forest Fire Service officials said Jennings Creek fire is about 30% contained
Persistent hot and dry weather is giving crews a real fight in battling a massive, fatal wildfire burning on the New Jersey-New York border. The Jennings Creek wildfire remains roughly 4,400 acres large — about 2,300 acres on the Jersey side and another 2,100 in New York.

Learn Moreabout PBS online sponsorshipand the weather conditions are giving Crews a real fight in putting out that massive Wildfire burning on the New Jersey New York border the size of it hasn't changed roughly 2300 Acres on the Jersey side and another 2100 in New York but the state forest fire service today said the blaze is now about 30% contained noting fire Crews made good progress despite yesterday's Red Flag Warning the terrain on the West Milford side In Paya county has made it slightly easier for fire Crews to access roads and get a handle on the spread two homes though in West Milford remain threatened New York firefighters are doing controlled Burns to block Flames from moving toward residential areas in total about 50 Jersey firefighters are on the line battling the Jennings Creek Fire but no additional injuries were reported today we are an active suppression of this Wildfire we are establishing good control lines on both New York and New Jersey at this time reinforcing with all our firefighters both volunteer career professional Wildland all that or all working as one joint team to suppress this fire uh we are falling back to areas where it's safe for firefighters to work and you know have a really good solid anchor to fight the fire on so will come some of it will creep down and we might then towards us and we also then will fire it out again fighting fire with fire [Music]
