Marcia Franklin talks with Rose Mapendo, a former Congolese refugee, about her life and work. Mapendo, who survived a harrowing ordeal in a death camp in the Democratic Republic of Congo with nine children, went on to become a well-known advocate for refugees in the U.S. and provides aid to women in the Democratic Republic of Congo. She is the subject of a PBS film called “Pushing the Elephant.”
