There is such a rich history of arts here.
I'm Heidi Zimmer, the founder of Wild Rice Retreat.
And we are here today in our beautiful, great room celebrating the artists of the area for our mid-summer artisan bazaar.
This building that we're standing in was built in 2000 by Mary Rice and ran as a, wonderful restaurant, Wild Rice Restaurant, for 17 years.
And Mary was known as the Queen of Bayfield.
And she was also such a prolific artist and entrepreneur.
Mary started the holiday market back when it was a restaurant, and it was a very popular event in December of every year.
We wanted to carry on that tradition.
And that market has become so popular that we thought, what's better than just doing it twice a year?
I'm a fiber artist doing soft sculpture.
These are the cousins, and, they live in my basement, and, I come out quite often, and, they're all made from secondhand goods.
The lake is a magnet for creative people.
I think, we find inspiration from where we live, the things around us and and then each other.
The history of arts and pottery and craft and native artists, with our beautiful piece by Rabbett Before Horses Strickland, that anchors our place here is just such a part of the rich fabric that as we carried things forward the thread of artistry was a big thread we pulled through.
